Managing Periodontal Disease In A General Dental Practice - A Team Based Approach (Full Day Practice Training)

Aims:

 Outline how to diagnose, treatment plan and execute NSPT to achieve good results in primary care settings while following a good team based protocol. 

Objectives:

• Outline current understanding of the aetiology, progression and treatment of periodontal disease
• Discuss BSP guidelines and its component applicable to practicing DHT. 
• Discuss Periodontal Classification (2017)based on BSP Classification. 
• Explain steps of new S3 treatment guidelines from BSP (2021). 
• Explain various treatment modalities for NSPT.
• Discuss treatment planning and executing treatment for Periodontal Disease in the general dental practice. 
• Clarify when and how to offer referral for specialist care.
• Discuss ways to reduce periodontal litigation. 

Learning outcomes:

• Describe how to assess the patients in detail, perform necessary examinations (within your own scope of practice) and be able to make right diagnosis.
• Describe Importance of team approach to give best patient care possible
• Describe how to adapt multidisciplinary approach into your daily practice
• Analyse how to explain the disease, process, treatment plan options in simple terms to the patient and be able to gain
• consent
• Classify and diagnose periodontal disease following 2017 Periodontal Classification System. 
• Critique the disease pathogenesis of periodontal disease and its relevance in in the treatment we provide
• Recognise the need to monitor and review treatment outcomes (following BSP guidelines)
• Evaluate the need for periodontal treatment and to be able to offer specialist care when needed
