Clinical Examination for DHT

Aims: 

•  To discuss the importance of comprehensive clinical examination and diagnosing dental disease within competence.
• To enhance knowledge, understanding and competence on record keeping in accordance with best practice guidance.

Objectives:

The speaker will:

• Discuss FGDP guidelines in relation to clinical examination, history taking and record keeping.  
• Discuss dental hygienists and therapists’ SOP and their role in carrying out clinical examinations 
• Discuss fundamental requirements of good record keeping for both ethical and legal purposes and in effective patient management

Anticipated Learning Outcomes: 

Following the session, the delegates will be able to:

• Explain the importance of and carry out an appropriate systematic intra- and extra-oral clinical examination
• Utilise relevant special investigations and diagnostic procedures, including radiography, pulp testing (thermal/ electrical/ pressure) et
• Describe the importance of and record a comprehensive and contemporaneous patient history
• Appreciate the need for and make arrangements for appropriate follow-up care 
• Maintain contemporaneous, complete and accurate patient records in accordance with legal requirements and best practice
