Practical Local Anaesthetic

Course Description

This Practical Local Anaesthetics course is designed to build on your existing knowledge of theoretical and practical administration of local anaesthetics. The course will encapsulate the relevant anatomy, and the mechanisms associated with the delivery of anaesthesia in Dentistry. On the course we will discuss with you the indications and contraindications of the most common local anaesthetics used in dental practice. We will also help you to be able to identify any complications of local anaesthetic delivery and how these can be managed in practice as an independent clinician.

The start of the course will refresh your existing knowledge of the physiology of pain, pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics of local anaesthetics as pain management medicines. The course will cover the components of a local anaesthetic cartridge and how to safely prepare these for administration in practice using up to date equipment and methodology. We will use both model skulls and sheep’s heads to aid with your positioning for the different types of administration techniques. You will also be able to practice the positioning and delivery of LA on each other without depositing the LA solution. By the end of the course, we hope that you will be more confident in the anatomy and the practical delivery of local anaesthetics as well as identifying any complications which may arise and how to manage these competently in practice.

Note: Please select course on left for the morning session ( 9am - 1pm) and the right for the afternoon session (2pm-6pm).
